The Council of UC Staff Assemblies (CUCSA) Engagement Survey is a pulse survey that is conducted every two years. The survey was first conducted in 2012 and then again in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2021. A random sampling of policy covered staff were surveyed to identify what drives engagement specifically at UCSB. Engagement is directly tied to the quality of work you get from employees who are enthusiastic about their work, who understand their role in the organization and who feel inspired to do their best work. By identifying our strengths to build on and our opportunities to address, we are able to focus our initiatives to improve engagement on our campus.

Willis Towers Watson, the company who administered the survey, identified the areas of Career Development, Performance Management, and Wellness as our campuses key drivers. These three key drivers are areas where focused efforts can significantly contribute to increased sustainable engagement. An Engagement Survey Workgroup has been formed with representatives from the four staff groups: Staff Assembly, Chancellor’s Staff Advisory Council (CSAC), Administrative Management Professionals (AMP), and Professional Women’s Association (PWA). This workgroup will develop an action plan and, in collaboration with other campus entities, work towards improving engagement on our campus. We will keep you posted on our efforts as we move forward.
