Staff Celebration Week and Events

UCSB’s Annual Staff celebration week is set for the week of Friday, May 11 through Friday, May 18. Planned and sponsored by the Chancellor’s Staff Advisory Council (CSAC), Staff Celebration Week will honor staff throughout the extended week with many activities.

Staff Assembly will present the Staff Citation of Excellence Awards at the Chancellor’s Luncheon on Friday, May 11 from 11:30-1:30 on the Faculty Club Green. Ten Staff members will receive an award of recognition and $500 for their outstanding service to UCSB. Come celebrate your co-workers!

  • "KICK OFF" Friday, May 11: Chancellor’s Lunch, 11:30-1:30, Faculty Club Green
  • Monday, May 14: Staff Ice Cream Social, noon-1:00, Cheadle Courtyard
  • Weds, May 16: Staff Social and Crafts Bazaar, 3:00-4:30, RecCen Pavillion Lawn
  • Thursday, May 17: Annual Staff Cookie Contest, 12-1:00, Student Health Classroom

What is UCSB Staff Assembly?

Staff Assembly is UCSB's chapter of the system wide Council of University of California Staff Assemblies, or CUCSA. UCSB's Staff Assembly is sponsored by the office of the Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services. Its mission is to support the research, teaching, and community service mission of UCSB by serving in an advisory capacity to the Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, senior officers, and other campus organizations seeking staff consultation.

In addition to coordinating events for Staff Celebration Week, Staff Assembly sponsors the Staff Citation of Excellence Awards as well as ongoing professional development and social events for staff.

Staff Assembly provides staff representatives to committees as requested by campus entities and facilitates communication among and between all staff employees. Additionally, Staff Assembly serves as a focal point and sounding board for all staff employees in issues that are not the purview of represented job classifications.

General membership includes all career UCSB staff members. The Executive Committee consists of at least eight members elected at large from all career staff on campus.

What is Staff Assembly?

Staff Assembly is an organization within all the UC campuses as well as the Office of the President and Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. At UCSB, there is no membership fee to join and all staff is considered part of Staff Assembly. You can attend any of the meetings and join the board. We meet once a month during the noon hour. Currently our meetings are from noon – 1pm.

There are two co-chairs for Staff Assembly; currently they are Martha Olsen and Greta Carl-Halle. Each serves a two-year term. The co-chairs also represent the UCSB campus as junior and senior delegates to the Council of UC Staff Assemblies (CUCSA) during their two-year term. Some of the significant results that came from CUCSA are the domestic partnership benefits and the Staff Advisor to the Regents.

At UCSB, Staff Assembly coordinates the annual Staff Citation of Excellence Awards and the Staff Celebration Week Ice Cream Social amongst many other activities.
